  • Overview

    The Environmental Engineer II office and field position requires advanced knowledge in the areas of engineering obtained through specialized intellectual instruction.  It requires the ability to work independently on assignments requiring the consistent exercise of discretion and judgement to analyze, interpret or make deductions based on varying facts or circumstances.  This position is primarily responsible for planning, selecting, coordinating and implementing scientific and engineering services to fully address the scope of work on environmental remediation, hazardous waste management, and construction projects in accordance with Company standards, regulatory criteria, and contractual obligations. 

    Responsibilities

     

    • Independently identifies, analyzes, and recommends engineering alternatives/designs and is able to identify and resolve complex engineering problems and develop conclusions and innovative recommendations
    • Assists with the preparation and peer review of conceptual and final designs
    • Consult and collaborate work with the Project Manager, Superintendent, as well as Health and Safety, Quality Control, Project Controls, Estimating, and Contracts representatives to properly plan, coordinate and ensure progress of deliverables per approved budgets and schedules
    • Able to plan and execute complex engineering projects or programs including design, contract administration, and implementation
    • Plan, prepare and issue project and field submittals within approved budget including but not limited to pre-construction plans, design documents, testing plans, analytical reports, shop drawings, field submittals, operation/ maintenance reports, closure reports and as-built records
    • Investigate and recommend solutions in response to field changes, RFIs, and resolve fieldwork or construction issues related to quality, technology, installed equipment, and operation
    • Apply industry standards of practice for selected technology, adhering to regulatory codes and standards, national/ local standards, and company SOPs
    • Select and apply appropriate environmental technologies and cost-effective solutions to remediate or remove contaminants and meet project objectives
    • Identify, address and communicate technical and operational risks relevant to the selected project approach and technology to the Project Manager
    • Author RFQs and assist in procurement and identification and evaluation of technical and specialty subcontractors, consultants, service providers, and materials to accomplish scope of work
    • Report to the field to perform, inspect, and/or oversee fieldwork
    • Oversee and review work of personnel, subcontractors and consultants to ensure compliance with approved plans and acceptable tolerances
    • Ensure that appropriate and required testing is completed by qualified personnel using properly calibrated equipment
    • Complete related documentation (field reports, logs, meeting minutes, online submittal sites) in a timely and accurate manner – including maintaining the project submittal log, all field inventory logs, and all daily reports

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management or related field from an accredited institution.  This should include a minimum of: 
      • 32 college semester credit hours of higher mathematics and basic sciences; and
      • 48 college semester credit hours of engineering science and/or engineering design courses
    • California PE required 
    • A minimum of 3-6 years of experience required (5-6 years preferred); two years or more of progressively responsible experience performing field engineering support or quality control on environmental construction or horizontal construction
    • Project management experience preferred
    • Design and/or construction management experience on site civil work, stormwater collection systems, fuel storage and waste incineration is a plus  
    • HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification with current 8 Hour Refresher and USACE Contractor Quality Management for Contractors certification preferred

      

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Understands a full range of principles, terms, procedures, and practices of pertinent engineering field(s) and applies engineering principles appropriately on multiple projects at same time
    • The ability to communicate in written or verbal formats with diplomacy and tact; Strong technical writing skills
    • An aptitude for exercising independent thinking and reasoning
    • Strong organizational skills, and skilled at leading dispersed teams to accomplish tasks and activities adhering to established budget and schedule
    • Skilled in achieving project objectives by properly reviewing/ inspecting work for adherence to approved technical plans, drawings and specifications
    • Demonstrated knowledge applying engineering standards of practice and regulatory codes and standards to environmental, construction and field techniques
    • Proven knowledge in reading and comprehending client requirements, technical plans, specifications, and related technical documentation
    • Successful track record in effectively engaging with subcontractors
    • Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows
