  • Overview

    We are seeking a Director of Communications, Marketing, and Sales Services in New York City to amplify the visibility of Gilbane’s brand and value proposition in the marketplace and internally with our employees. This position will lead strategic communications, sales, marketing, and brand development efforts that advance Gilbane’s reputation and relationships with clients, industry partners, employees and targeted audiences across the region.

     

    This Director will be the division’s voice, eyes, and ears. Your focus will ensure that our brand message stays sharp and that it’s delivered consistently across all external and internal communication channels.

     

    The successful candidate thrives in a creative, fast-paced and dynamic environment with a passion for writing, editing and leading a team to achieve success. The ability to multi-task, prioritize and promote brand differentiators is required. The role touches every internal department and the position will serve as a partner working effectively across teams to further business objectives and goals to expand the New York division.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Lead strategic communications and external affairs identifying opportunities to highlight Gilbane’s value proposition through media relations, social media channels, and strategic relationships with related industry groups and, strategic relationships with related industry groups and partners.
    • Develop, implement and uphold an annual external and multi-platform communications plan and schedule (i.e. recruiting, market positioning, proactive crisis management, client and media communications, event presence and speaking engagements, and social media).Responsible for managing crisis communications response. This includes planning, managing and implementing responses with our clients and consultants in the New York Division. The local news outlets are global in scale and reach, so proven experience in this area is a prerequisite.
    • Oversee content development for internal and external communications pieces (print, web, video, social media, email, etc.) Collaborate effectively with other staff in the design and creation of content that maximizes brand effectiveness and delivers messaging that meet a diverse and multi-generational audience.
    • Manage and direct the Sales and Marketing services team, and all activities, to drive efficiency, while supporting the team’s professional growth, development and job satisfaction.
    • Create and maintain strategic positioning for client deliverables to differentiate and position Gilbane in proposal and marketing content.
    • Collaborate with business development managers and department-wide teams to formulate and execute a RFP process that maximizes a competitive advantage.
    • Liaise and build relationships with relevant industry and community organizations, creating partnerships where appropriate.
    • Support senior executives in media opportunities, public appearances, and identify and secure recognition and/or opportunities to increase visibility in the communities where Gilbane works. Provide media coaching as needed.
    • Manage sponsorships, ad placements, and media partnerships.
    • Develop, write, pitch and publish industry bylines and white papers.
    • Foster relationships with industry press and strategic partners.
    • Manage the Division’s communications, sales and marketing budget.
    • Communicate industry trends from market research and publications, providing insights and recommendations to management.

    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

    • 15+ years of sales and marketing services experience at an AEC firm, preferably, and a BA/BS degree in marketing, communications or a related area (required).
    • Demonstrated success in effective media relations response and outreach.
    • Provide strong communications strategy in times of crisis and/or other unusual situations (often occurs after hours, requiring rapid mobilization, development and execution of an action plan).
    • Lead strong team of professionals to be best in class.
    • Be a confident, skilled and persuasive communicator – verbal, written and presentation.
    • Demonstrate strong critical and strategic thinking / analytical skills.
    • Calmly manage multiple, complex projects under tight deadlines.
    • Work comfortably and effectively with all levels of employees.
    • Successfully influence peers and internal clients to achieve objectives.
    • Execute projects in a timely, cost effective and efficient manner.
    • Provide strong communications strategy in times of crisis and/or other unusual situations (often occurs after hours, requiring rapid mobilization, development and execution of an action plan).
    • Use sound judgment to gather, manage and impart information to the media and various other internal and external audiences when/where appropriate

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Proven experience with large and complex deliverables and seeks ways to add value to marketing and proposal processes.
    • Experience in developing and implementing internal and external communications plans.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills within a team setting.
    • Ability to maintain an energetic outlook and prioritize multiple diverse projects in a fast-paced environment.
