Overview

TheSustainability Data Collection & Analysis Specialist supports Gilbane’s sustainability data management, reporting, compliance, and continuous-improvement activities. The role is responsible for maintaining reliable sustainability information, supporting data and reporting systems, troubleshooting data issues, and translating complex information into clear insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

 

 

The Sustainability Data Analyst serves as the primary owner of several core sustainability data-management processes, including ongoing data aggregator maintenance, audit support, compliance management, data collection and troubleshooting. The role also supports implementation of the data aggregator platform.

Responsibilities

Sustainability Data Management and Systems 

  • Support the implementation of the data aggregator tool, including coordination of data, system, and stakeholder needs. 
  • Manage ongoing data aggregator maintenance to support effective sustainability data collection and reporting. 
  • Support sustainability data collection and troubleshooting, working with data owners and stakeholders to identify and address data-quality, availability, and process issues. 
  • Work with IT and other business partners to structure, stage, and integrate sustainability data for dashboards, reports, and analytical tools, including the development of new data pipelines where needed. 
  • Support the administration and continuous improvement of sustainability data and data-visualization systems. 
  • Document data sources, definitions, methodologies, workflows, controls, and reporting requirements in audit-ready format.  

 

Compliance, Audits, and Process Improvement 

  • Coordinate sustainability compliance management, including the organization and maintenance of supporting data and documentation. 
  • Support sustainability audits by compiling, organizing, reviewing, and responding to requests for data and documentation. 
  • Lead the ongoing collection of Gilbane’s environmental tracking requirements, incorporating evolving business, project, reporting, and compliance needs. 
  • Help establish repeatable processes and quality controls that improve the completeness, consistency, traceability, and reliability of sustainability information. 
  • Identify opportunities to automate recurring data-management, validation, and reporting activities.  

Analytics, Reporting, and Visualization 

  • Build interactive sustainability data visualizations, reports, and dashboards using MicroStrategy or comparable business-intelligence tools such as Tableau or SAS Visual Analytics. 
  • Analyze sustainability data to identify patterns, trends, exceptions, risks, and opportunities. 
  • Translate sustainability data into clear, decision-useful information for business leaders, project teams, and other stakeholders. 
  • Respond to recurring and ad hoc data requests while maintaining appropriate documentation and quality controls. 
  • Partner with sustainability team members, data scientists, IT, and other internal stakeholders to support research and analytics initiatives. 
  • Learn and apply new analytical methods, technologies, and techniques as sustainability reporting and business requirements evolve.

Qualifications

Experience and Education 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data analytics, accounting, computer science, information systems, statistics, applied mathematics, environmental science, sustainability, engineering, business, or a related field. 
  • Two or more years of practical experience in data processing, programming, business intelligence, reporting, accounting, analytics, sustainability data, or a related discipline. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. 
  • Experience working with environmental, sustainability, ESG, construction, or operational data is preferred. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Background in reporting, business intelligence, business analytics, or data management. 
  • Experience with enterprise data-visualization software such as MicroStrategy, Tableau, Power BI, SAS Visual Analytics, or a comparable platform. 
  • Ability to understand different data structures and convert complex datasets into clear visualizations and business insights. 
  • Experience with data pipelines, process automation, data validation, system implementation, or model deployment. 
  • Experience with SQL, R, Python, or comparable analytical tools is preferred. 
  • Experience with MicroStrategy and MicroStrategy Dossiers is highly desirable. 
  • Experience with sustainability data-management or reporting platforms, including data aggregators, is desirable. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to identify data-quality issues, investigate root causes, and coordinate practical resolutions. 
  • Ability to manage multiple reporting, audit, compliance, and data-management priorities. 
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to connect data activities to operational needs and business outcomes. 
  • Strategic-thinking skills, including the ability to see the broader context, clarify objectives, identify relationships and trends, analyze information, and prioritize actions. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with sustainability professionals, project teams, business leaders, IT partners, consultants, and data owners.

Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.   

This ranges from $70,000.00-$84,000.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
