Overview

The Senior Risk Manager serves as a primary point of contact for insurance and risk-related matters for one or more business verticals. The role supports development and construction activities by identifying, assessing, and managing contractual, insurable, and operational risks, while partnering closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to support informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary resource for insurance-related matters for assigned business units.
  • Coordinate insurance pricing estimates with insurance brokers to provide development pro-forma budget updates.
  • Perform development, general contractor, and subcontractor contract reviews with a focus on risk transfer, insurance requirements, and indemnification.
  • Assess project risks, including contractual, insurable, subcontractor, and quality-related risks.
  • Maintain and update project and program data within risk management systems.
  • Coordinate insurance pricing and program structure for development, review OCIP / CCIP presentations, project-specific insurance placements, Builder’s Risk, Flood, Pollution, and Professional Liability, as applicable.
  • Communicate insurance rates, billing parameters, and coverage structures to asset managers, development teams, and accounting partners.
  • Support development, construction, and operations teams in making informed risk management decisions and provide training as needed.
  • Maintain relationships with business unit leadership to ensure alignment on risk strategy and insurance program execution.
  • Track higher-risk pursuits and projects, assess exposure, and provide risk recommendations to leadership as appropriate.
  • Provide claim support and loss history analysis in coordination with claims and insurance partners.
  • Support internal audits and reviews related to insurance and risk management compliance.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management, Legal, Asset Management, Accounting, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10-15+ years of experience in risk management, insurance, construction, or a related discipline.
  • New York City affordable development and construction experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance markets, coverages, trends, and pricing.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies.
  • Strong analytical and financial aptitude.
  • Ability to understand issues quickly and follow through to resolution.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with RMIS platforms preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while handling complex issues under moderate supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior-level stakeholders.

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.

For New York, this ranges from $169,600 - $242,550.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
