Overview

The Senior Mechanical Category Management Professional is responsible for the execution of sourcing, purchasing and supplier management strategies for Mechanical Equipment. These may include infrastructure and distribution equipment for HVAC, Fire Suppression, Plumbing and Process systems.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and commercial expertise and support to projects and operations in the direct procurement process.
  • Responsible for all activities involved in direct procurement strategies for multiple projects.
  • Provide comprehensive planning in both technical and commercial aspects for RFP/RFQ development. Draft project specific scopes of work for equipment suppliers and/or manufacturers, ensure prequalification of bidders.
  • Lead commercial and technical bid evaluations, make award recommendations, execute buydown strategies, draft and review purchase orders, and lead post-award administration of select major mechanical packages.
  • Receive, review and process equipment submittals through to   release of suppliers for fabrication.
  • Monitor delivery, attend factory witness tests and other shop surveillance and inspection activities as appropriate. Coordinate delivery activities and verify major package receipts.
  • Attend pre-startup and commissioning meetings. Provide full collaboration with engineering/design parties, supplier, trade contractors, project team, client, jobsite personnel and others as necessary to ensure seamless project execution post-award relative to the major mechanical equipment package .
  • Proactively monitor, report and act to ensure timely equipment delivery. Engage vendor in developing alternative options for management approval to address any delivery slippage.  Including but not limited to factory witness tests, inspections, in person submittal reviews, factory audits, and site visits.
  • Evaluate and monitor KPI performance metrics of suppliers
  • Provide general technical category support for Business Development, Pre-Construction, Purchasing, Estimating, others internally.
  • Maintain manufacturer, supplier, and trade contractor relationships supported by technical expertise; specifically mechanical. Must be capable of managing and supporting multiple external client transactions and engagements.
  • Develop and cultivate positive and professional relationships both internally and externally with trade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders (Preconstruction, Estimating, Purchasing, and Operations).
  • Identify, develop and maintain critical supplier relationships to support the overall
  • Provide critical expert input to quarterly company market conditions publication.
  • Lead and manage several varied projects at one time, with frequently changing priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for factory visits, office/project support and industry shows.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • 8-15 years of direct industry experience in mechanical engineering, mechanical sourcing, mechanical equipment sales, or a field related to the essential duties. Experience with mechanical contracting, MEP role in construction, within commercial operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a field related to the essential duties preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Candidate should be a team player with exceptional organizational, computer, ethical, and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a quickly changing work environment with rapidly changing needs and requests.
  • Ability to make decisions with limited information and operate with autonomy.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiating skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point. 
  • Bonus skills include Power BI and Data Verse.

 

 

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.

 

The pay ranges from $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
