Responsibilities

Overview

The Estimating Manager- serves as lead estimator for firm fixed price pursuit in coordination with the Senior Estimating Manager.

 

Responsibilities

As an Estimating Manager, you will: 

  • Lead the estimating efforts for lump sum bids.
  • Read plans and specifications and understand the requirements of the RFP and assign bid packages to estimating staff.
  • Leads staff to assure accuracy in estimating process, procedures and review requirements are met.
  • Reviews plans and specifications and coordinates with the team to confirm complete scope.
  • Coordinate and execute tasks of estimating personnel assigned to a specific trade. 
  • Monitor and follow up on staff’s assigned duties i.e., review Scope Checklists
  • Write effective RFI’s.
  • Assist Project Executive in the preparation of general conditions/general requirement pricing. Based on logistics plan and schedule developed by Operations.
  • Advise designers, in design-build projects, on solution with the lowest initial cost to meet the RFP.
  • Review and coordinate project-specific insurance requirements.
  • Reviews coverage of subcontractors and/or suppliers to ensure adequate participation.
  • Assists in “Good Faith Efforts” as required.
  • Lead review efforts for subcontractor and supplier bids.
  • Develops and recommends appropriate risk register values.
  • Presents lump sum bid to Leadership for review.
  • Support project buyout after award which includes scopes of work and negotiations.
  • Trains and develops staff.
  • Tracks and reports on current material and labor prices, including escalation.
  • Tracks and reports on current material and equipment to identity long-lead items.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of Winest, OnScreen Takeoff, and similar software for takeoffs and estimate pricing for C/S/A systems construction.
  • Supportive computer skills for varied formats such as basic Windows applications plus pdf’s, TEAMS, Zoom, etc...
  • Ability to present estimating deliverables to management and explain advantages in utilizing one contractor over another, scope gaps, cost swings, etc.…
  • Ability to estimate multiple facility types such as hospitals, hangars, office structures, specialized mission structures, base improvements, renovations, and additions.
  • Ability to maintain healthy working relationships with industry partners (Owners, designers, subcontractors, etc.) for the development of estimating deliverables.

 

Experience/Education

  • BS or MS degree in Engineering or Construction Management 
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience  
  • Hard bid, lump sum experience required.
  • Federal government experience preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
