The SCA Assistant Project Officer serves as an essential member of the project team, and under general supervision, coordinates and expedites the development or improvement of simple capital projects, assists in expediting the development of more complex projects under the responsibility of a Project Officer, and ensures the quality and high standards of contract performance and compliance in all aspects of assigned projects. The Assistant Project Officer Level II assists in making decisions and taking actions in a timely manner to expediate completion of the construction process and correcting mistakes and errors before they can be extensively incorporated into the project.
Performs more complex and difficult technical tasks, such as the negotiations of change orders and contracts
Prepares drafts of job status and other reports for review by Project Officers and Senior Project Officers
Assists in overseeing the consultant selection and contracting process, and manages these contracts, or retains in-house design and construction management staff
Responds to external and internal request(s) for information/data in a timely manner, within pre-established parameters
Provides guidance and advises Assistant Project Officer Level I; performs duties of Assistant Project Officer Level I as needed
Visits various job sites to perform post-occupancy evaluation of the facilities in conjunction with the Department of Education
Performs other related tasks
KEY COMPETENCIES
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Environmental Services, or a related field
1-3 years of full-time paid construction work experience (requirement dependent on APO Level I, II or III) experience
Valid driver’s license in New York State
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
Strong technical and communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs
Ability to work in a team environment

For New York, New York this ranges from $65,000.00 - $105,300.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
