Overview

We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Senior Manager, HR Business Partner to lead a high-performing team of HR professionals and drive enterprise-wide human capital initiatives. This role goes beyond traditional HR management—offering the opportunity to influence business outcomes at the highest levels. You will partner directly with senior leaders across Business Operations and Department functions (M6–E2), providing expert guidance on talent strategy, organizational effectiveness, and employee engagement.

 

As a key member within our HR Business Partner organization, you will oversee a team of HR Business Partners across multiple locations and businesses, ensuring consistent execution of HR strategies and processes. Your work will span the full employee lifecycle—from labor relations to performance management and organizational design —within one or more divisions and business lines.

 

We are looking to fill this position preferably in our Boston, MA office however we will also consider placement in the following Gilbane locations: New York City or Albany, NY; Glastonbury, CT, Providence, RI.  We will also consider relocation support for the right candidate.  Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and manage a team of HR Business Partners and Senior HR Business Partners across multiple geographies, ensuring consistent execution of HR strategies and processes.
  • Set clear expectations, provide coaching and development, and perform all people leadership functions for direct reports.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that supports employee engagement and growth.

Strategic HR Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Business Unit and Operations leaders (M6–E2), providing strategic guidance on HR initiatives, policies, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with the HR Director, People Strategy, to align regional and enterprise-wide HR initiatives with business goals.
  • Participate in annual business planning to ensure HR strategies support organizational objectives and the People First philosophy.

Execution of HR Strategy

  • Translate and implement Gilbane’s People First strategy in partnership with Business Unit and Department leaders.
  • Drive the execution of enterprise HR programs, including talent management, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Monitor progress and outcomes of HR initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and continuous improvement.

Labor Relations & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Address labor relations matters, mediate workplace issues, and maintain strong relationships with trade professionals.
  • Partner with business leaders to design and implement organizational structures that support operational efficiency and workforce planning.
  • Evaluate and enhance HR operations for the Next 150 (Self-Perform) business, including compliance, policy development, and training programs.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Act as a liaison between HR Business Partners and HR Centers of Excellence (COEs), facilitating feedback and driving process improvements with a focus on lean methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to support strategic staffing plans, including campus and experienced hire recruitment, onboarding, and internal mobility.

Communication & Change Management

  • Ensure team members understand their role in achieving organizational goals by effectively communicating strategic direction.
  • Support change management efforts by aligning HR practices with evolving business needs and fostering adaptability across teams.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field required
  • 10-13 years of Human Resources experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience with Labor Relations is required; this requirement is mandatory and cannot be subsituted with education or other experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and general HR experience may be considered, but Labor Relations experience is essential

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficiency with, or the ability to quickly learn, the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team:

The pay ranges from $130,200-$229,100 plus benefits and retirement program.
